The common practice amongst nonprofit organizations has been the facilitation of activities that enhance the welfare of the general public. The nonprofit organizations thus strive to ensure that the public receives the best social services(Gill & Meier, 2000). Despite this, they have been noted to lay little emphasis in maximizing their own efficiency (Grinnell, Gabor, & Unrau, 2010). In the end, studies have done little to show the collation between their performance and how the same organizations have been efficient in their service delivery. Nonprofit organizations are able to determine their efficiency through evaluations (Grinnell, Gabor, & Unrau, 2010, p.144). An evaluation process gathers information on the results of an organization’s past activities and uses the information to formulate decisions depending on the result of the outcome. The entire process is referred to Organizational Performance Evaluation (Guerra-Lo%u0301pez, 2008).
An organization can make use of different types of evaluation processes for determining their efficiency. Two of these methods as will be discussed in this paper are process evaluation and outcome evaluation processes (Rubin & Babbie, 2007). The process of evaluation is carried out at the initial stages of the program (McDavid & Huse, 2013). This form of evaluation is used to find out whether the operations of the program are carried out as had initially been planned (Surveyspro, 2009). The second evaluation process, outcome evaluation, is conducted once the program is long underway (McDavid & Huse, 2013). This type of evaluation is used to seek to investigate as to whether the deliverables that have been foreseen are being achieved by the program (Surveyspro, 2009). In particular, the outcome evaluation seeks to understand whether the program had any impact upon the participant leading to any changes.
These two types of evaluations are very important. The process evaluation can be utilized to determine the changes that can be made at the early stages of a program. The results can then be used to benefit the program help it become more inclusive in its service delivery to the target population. The outcome evaluations, on the other side, are essential in the determination as to whether the outcome indicators used by the program are being achieved as at the time the evaluations are carried out (Dudley, 2009).
